I've seen mention what kinds of wormer to use and I know I saw the name Safe-guard but there are different kinds Safe-guard. There is a Safe-guard horse wormer in the catalog I'm using. Contains 10% Fenbendazole. Can I use that or should I get an Ivermectin? How much for pygmys? Thanks

Yep, I use horse dewormer on my goats, and it works fine Smile I have used SafeGuard, but it is quite ineffective in some areas and mostly works for tapeworms. Ivermectin is a more all-around wormer and I prefer it. Some people advise you give it at 3 times the dose for horses, and others say give it at the rate they do for horses... either way, it should do the trick.

Safeguard is safe for goaties...and the dosage is much higher than with horses; in order to be effective it should be given at a rate of atleast 3 times the normal (horse) dosage.

As Em mentioned, "in her area," different wormers work better in different areas of the country. If you know any goat people around you, you might want to ask what they have found to be effective for them. Sometimes different things work differently even from farm to farm in the same general area, but that info might give you a place to start at anyways.

No matter what area you are in, you do have to remember to rotate wormers...otherwise the 'bugs' get used to them. So no 'one' wormer will do in any area...rotation is important for maintaining herd health. Wink
