We just had our first kids at 3:00am Friday & I never would've thought they'd be this cute (Nigies). I get such a kick out of the "twins". Although we're still waiting on our other doe to do her thing, we're enjoying these two escape artists. The boy butts everything incuding me already. I do have 2 questions though, is it normal for both to only like one teat? They push each other out of the way to get to the left one, but I've never seen them on the right & the teat is bigger/udder fuller on the right. Normal or problem? (still learning). 2nd Q is will their eyes stay blue?

Laurie, You may have to milk the big side down a time or two until they start nursing on it. When it gets too full, it's sometimes hard for them to get it started. Also, you run the risk of mastitis or other issues with the unmilked teat, besides the fact that it's uncomfortable for the dam.
As to the eyes - you will have to ask the mini breeders - I think some lines are BRED for blue eyes and will retain them.
And yep - you haven't seen cute till you've seen a baby goat!! And even though I don't raise minis, I must say they are the ULTIMATE in cute!!

yes milk the one side down till it is soft and easy for them to nurse. Eventurally they will start to nurse off that side.

As to the blue eyes.......depends on how their eyes are blue.

Is the outside white with a ring of light blue and then the solid blue center? if not then they will turn brown eventually.

Did either of the parents have blue eyes? if not then they cant have blue eyes.

I did milk her down a little last night (she seemed relieved) & by this morning she was looking pretty even still & the teat looked almost normal.  I think it's a game now for the boy - wait until his sister is eating & butt her off, butt her mom, but me, but the gate, etc.  The father does have blue eyes so maybe they'll stay blue.  Thanks a bunch.
